And children (and their parents) will get some chuckles from the antics of a boisterous pelican. Sequences in which Sawyer swims with Winter are magical, capturing the majestic beauty of the dolphin. We can all go home saddened with the knowledge that Sawyer will have to go on a road trip to see Winter. Apparently, it’s against federal rules to keep a dolphin in captivity alone, so Winter has to go unless a suitable, erm, jail cell partner is found.īut hey, if the dolphin is moved, problem solved. Why? Because Winter’s dolphin companion in captivity has died. The big threat is the animal might be moved to another aquarium. This time the amputee dolphin’s life isn’t really threatened. With the prosthetic attached, the dolphin swims happily in captivity and inspires humans who have lost a limb. The boy eventually enlists the help of a Veteran’s Administration doctor (Morgan Freeman) who specializes in making prosthetics for wounded troops. ![]() The original film, which was inspired by true events, was an aggressively cute and wholesome story about a fresh-faced boy named Sawyer (Nathan Gamble) who helps save a dolphin that has its tale amputated. That’s the chief question you’ll ask yourself if you are unlucky enough to get dragged to see “Dolphin Tale 2” by young family members, the target audience of this sequel to the 2011 film.
